Psychedelic Medicine and Therapy

The researchers are taking a new look at hallucinogens which have been a taboo for many years. In recent years there has been a number of studies with such substances as psilocybin and MDMA with very promising results.

Yet, these are substances that have an abuse potential and have been wildly used recreationally. While many people report that their experiences have been life changing there are others who had “bad trips” and had suffered short term and in some cases long term negative consequences.

It appears that a key factors distinguishing between positive and negative outcomes are set and settings, how one approaches the experience and how experience is integrated later on.  Hence, a therapist can play a key role in preparing a person for the experience, guiding through it and helping to integrate it.

In this lecture we will look at recent research, separate facts from fiction and also discuss how mindfulness based approach make and an ideal mode for psychedelic assisted therapy. We will also discuss whether lessons learned from reported psychedelic experiences are consistent with RFT.
