Description of the Presentation:

Burnout - exhaustion and disengagement in one's work role due to chronic stress - has been rampant lately. As a therapist, you have likely seen burnout among your clients and experienced it yourself. Fortunately, ACT is here to the rescue! In this talk, we will look at burnout through a contextual behavioral lens, including the external factors that can lead us from chronic stress into burnout territory, and ways we can end up stuck in a "Burnout Cycle." We will discuss both internal processes (like self-compassion, cognitive defusion, and reconnection with values) that can transform burnout, and external changes that can help (such as boundary-setting, redistribution of workload, and getting support). We will also discuss systemic and cultural changes that are necessary if we, as a society, want the problem of burnout to get better on a grander scale.
